WordPress Plugin v0.4.5

We've released some bug fixes to the WordPress plugin and a lot of new code for some new calendar views that is still work-in-progress:

  • Released a preview version of Monthly, Weekly, and Daily Schedule calendar views. These are not yet ready for full production use.
  • Fixed a bug where virtual showtimes would not always remain visible in all views until the End Date
  • Fixed a bug where External Ticketing Links wouldn't work on Elementor templates.

Pinned the Header for a Showtime in Box Office

It isn't uncommon to have a large number of tickets to choose from in the Box Office--especially when zoomed in or showing all tickets across all allocations.

Before, agents could easily scroll down a bit using the mouse or touchscreen--but the header at the top of the showtime would also scroll, hiding the ability to hide all allocations, filter tickets, or switch sections.

We made the header portion for that showtime remain visible--so only the tickets themselves will scroll.

Stripe Reconciliation Report Now Shows Original Price in Product Totals

The Stripe Reconciliation Report used to show amounts in the Product Totals that were post-discount. This could be confusing since the Discounts were already broken out in their own column--not great from the way accountants view reports.

Now, in the Payout Orders table, each item's totals will show amounts before discounts are applied; if you deduct the amounts shown in the Discount column, you can compute the discounted price.

Fix

Private Allocation Access Codes Now Work With No Public Tickets

We recently introduced the ability to add an Access Code to a private allocation. End-users can enter that access code to reveal privatized tickets even if they haven't specifically been made a part of that private group.

This change will ensure that end-users have the opportunity to enter an Access Code and see private tickets even if there is no public allocation or any non-private tickets. Now a showtime could be entirely private and accessible via access code.

Revamped Membership Customer Report

A lot of new membership functionality has come about since the Membership Customer Report was created--that report even pre-dates renewals and upgrades, not to mention the more recent changes to renewed/upgraded members.

To be consistent with the other Customer reports, we revamped this report to reflect who has what right now. Beforehand, this report indicated it could be used as a transaction report (and wasn't serving that purpose very well). We removed order codes and swapped out the purchase date filters for a new Status filter.

image.png

This makes it easy to see, at a glance, all active members and/or all lapsed/lost members as of right now.

If you haven't used it before, the Membership Customer Search is a very handy complementary tool--where you go to see all the people who share memberships and view membership benefit usage. If you want transaction-detail on each membership purchase/renewal/upgrade, the Membership Transaction Export will give you precise transaction details on each membership. Purchase dates and order codes were removed from this tool as well.

Also, for alerts about each membership purchase, you can receive email alerts to emails set in your Account Settings page--just look for Membership Purchase Notification Email Recipients.

Or similarly, get Slack messages by checking off the second box in Manage Integrations.

For those of you who used to use the Membership Customer report to alert yourselves of recent membership purchases, we are soliciting your feedback for additional features. If you used this report in the past, please tell us more about how you'd use it--what actions or processes this info would set into motion in your organization.

Added General Ledger Codes to Merchandise

Merchandise didn't have GL Codes like the rest of the products in the system. Now, well…they do. Woo!

Trust me, this passes as fun times for accountants.

Events Can Be Updated From Airtable

We have extended the ability for Airtable to update existing event data in Elevent--not just be a source of one-time imported info. Now you can continue to change, update, and manage your events and event data in Airtable without creating duplicate events in Elevent.

As long as the Event Names in Airtable match Elevent, data from Airtable will update the event data in Elevent. Note that this only applies to events, not showtimes on the schedule. Those are still only imported once.

This is an opportunity to rethink what is the most efficient way for you to manage your event data--whether to consider Elevent or Airtable the ultimate source of truth. You'll want to make a firm choice so you don't run the risk of overwriting changes made in Elevent.

New Feature

New, Easier Way to Connect Printers and Other Devices - Direct Connect

One of the main reasons for introducing a new Box Office was to create a connection to hardware that was simpler to set up, faster, more reliable, and compatible with more devices. Direct Connected hardware to the rescue.

With Direct Connected Hardware:

  • Setup is easier and requires no network knowledge
  • Communication isn't affected by network issues
  • USB, Bluetooth, or Network connected devices are all possible
  • Devices perform faster
  • Box Office is compatible with a wider array of hardware, including secure cash drawers, inexpensive receipt printers, scales for pay-by-weight, and more.
  • You can still use the same Box Office app as a portable drop-in box office or a fixed-position, high-volume point of sale.
  • Easier for sales agents to use

Connecting to hardware is a pretty boring topic; if there's one aspect of it that's rather special to Elevent it's that the Box Office remains a highly portable web app you can use anytime, anywhere on any operating system or modern browser. But now you can connect it to printers without involving your local network--box office now sees all your local printers.

image.png

The new Box Office and direct connection also improve the box office/concessions agent's use of the system. The point-of-sale will now do a better job remembering which devices that agent uses. It also heralds the ability to use distinct receipt printers, so now you have the choice to print both tickets and receipts on a ticket printer, on a receipt printer, or print tickets on a ticket printer and receipts on the receipt printer.

image.png

Directly-connected devices go beyond the Box Office and are also supported in Elevent's bulk printing tools--this includes bulk-printing tickets, the ticket layout editor, and the Custom Ticket Printing tool.

To direct connect devices, you'll need to:

  • Install a local hardware tool we provide
  • Install the device to your point-of-sale machine in the same way you'd install a printer at home--including local device drivers for most devices (so this method only works on PCs or Macs--tablets or smartphones don't have drivers)
  • Choose the devices to use when you first log into the box office

Network-connected printers and other devices are still supported, so if you have your heart set on selling in one place and printing in another, you can still do that. Setting up network printers is a bit different in the new Box Office, so review the docs and plan on making the transition if you haven't already.

You can follow along step by step how to connect and configure printers in the new box office here.

Removed Renewals and Upgrades from Discount Membership Restrictions

To make configuring members-only discounts easier, we've winnowed down the list of memberships to exclude renewals and upgrades. Now you simply need to choose the initial membership tier and any members-only discounts will automatically extend to any renewed or upgraded members.

Some clients have a high number of membership tiers as it is, so this will provide some welcome relief when creating members-only discounts.

You encounter this list when you create or edit a discount campaign, and expand the Membership Restrictions dropdown list.

WordPress Plugin v0.4.4

We've released some small improvements to the WordPress Plugin:

  • Fixed disappearing showtimes/events when server time was a high number of hours ahead of organization's local time
  • Event Time Zone, used for displaying base time zones for virtual events, will no longer get overwritten on sync
  • Events set to "Private" in WordPress will now remain Private after sync (or will remain in whatever status they were in beforehand)
