New FeatureElevent for WordPress

WordPress Plugin v1.3.0

With version 1.3.0 of the Elevent Event Ticketing WordPress plugin, we introduce a few significant new features to help more easily create and manage events not everyone should see. By tightening the integration between Elevent Sale Locations and your WordPress website, we've made it easier to control event visibility on any grids, lists, calendars, or sliders you have on your website.

Hidden Showtimes

Sometimes you need to create events on your website that just aren't ready to be seen by anyone but you. Sure, you could sync them and unpublish them on the website, but that's a bit tedious and you had to temporarily disable syncing or risk republishing those events to the public.

An event is visible when it has one or more showtimes in the future--and those showtimes should be visible. Now, if all of an event’s showtimes are set to Sale Location: Hidden, that tells the WordPress plugin to go ahead and create/update that event—but don’t let it be seen by anyone.

Image

In WordPress, you’ll see that ‘Hidden’ events are then:

  • Set to WordPress status: Draft
  • Set to Elevent Event Status: Pending
  • All hidden showtimes will not appear in the Elevent event calendar blocks/shortcodes

To take events live when you are ready, you need only update the Sale Location of Showtimes in Elevent. Most commonly, you’d update them to Private (your website only) or Web & Box Office (Everywhere); on next sync, events and showtimes will become visible.

If you have event listings, grids, layouts, or carousels on your website, you should review how you filter out events. WordPress Draft status should keep them displaying everywhere, but it’s recommended to also filter out Elevent Events in an Elevent Status of Pending or Past Event (unless it’s an archive page).

Unlisted Events

If you have a ticketable event that you want to exist on your WordPress site but not show up in the Event Grids / Lists / Calendars you have an easier way to make that happen within WordPress:

In an Elevent Event, in the 'Configured in WordPress' tab, there’s a new toggle: Unlisted event.

Image

Toggle on to hide the event from anyone who doesn’t know the link - any event grids / lists / and/or calendars. Showtimes to the event may still be on sale, if that’s how it’s set up.

Note: Since any event listings, grids, lists, or carousels can be custom-filtered by your website, it’s important to exclude these Unlisted events from those filters. The Elevent calendar blocks & shortcodes will do so automatically.

Responsive Time Slot Datepicker

If you have events that are of type time_slot (e.g., gallery/museum entry) the mobile view date picker now displays in a responsive manner:

  1. It defaults to show the first available entry date (instead of showing all dates)
  2. All other dates are in a scrollable date picker
  3. Clicking on a date takes you to that single date's time slots.

Watch this space for an even better version of time slot choosing UI--we have something in the works.

Improved Date Filtering in Event Lists

Before, when filtering an event list to a single date, it would display all events with a showtime on that date—but still show all showtime buttons for those events, even if they were on different dates.

To simplify the display, when the user filters to a single date, only buttons for showtimes on that filtered date will display.

Note: On-demand, streaming virtual events are awkward logic for date filtering to a single date. Virtual showtimes will not show when filtered to a date within their viewing period.

Sandbox Support

If you are in a higher pricing tier, you may have access to an Elevent sandbox. You can flip your website to connect to an Elevent sandbox by checking the box in Elevent plugin settings.

Other minor fixes:

  • Converted all links to Elevent files to the new elevent.app extension and CDN provider
  • Fixed a bug where selecting to not show the labels (ie. Genres: or Countries:) was not working as expected in Elementor
  • A bug causing a critical error if you were trying to edit an event post using Elementor was resolved
  • Fixed a bug related to an ACF change causing the 'sponsor image' and 'sponsor link' fields to not render in the 'Configured by WordPress' section.
  • 3D svg path updated so this icon will pull through correctly in 'special attributes', also removed the helper text thanks to client feedback.
  • Earliest Event Time field now populates when events are imported from Elevent. This is the first stage of an upcoming new feature.

Merchandise Sales Revenue Report - Merch Level vs. Variant Level

The Merchandise Sales Revenue Report is your go-to report to see merch revenue.

We're now giving you two options to view your data - grouped up at the merch level or itemized by merch variant.

You'll see a new dropdown in the Report Controls: Include Variants.

Image

Suppose you have a merch line item called Books: Ages 5-9. And you have 3 variants, one for each book title.

If set to No, you will see total amounts for all books Ages 5-9.

Image

If set to yes, you'll see a line item for each variant with sales activity.

Price Overrides on Specific Merch Variants

Merchandise prices can get very specific--each variant of merch item can have its own price.

Image

Before this change, you couldn't do an ad hoc price override on an individual merch variation--so if the XXL hoodie was $5 more, you couldn't do an emergency discount on that price when selling one.

Now, well, you can.

You just add mech to the cart in the Box Office and press the Image button.

Change that price to a lower price and press Apply.

EIN no longer required on Donations

When creating a donation, it's no longer a requirement that you enter the tax ID (usually an EIN) for every donation campaign you create.

donation ein field

You still need to enter a tax ID if you intend to have Elevent immediately auto-send a tax receipt as an attachment to their order confirmation.

New Feature

New: Donation Round-Up Plus

Heretofore, you had two options for suggested/upsold donations:

  • The effective upsell: Where the buyer receives an explicit suggestion to also donate, and;
  • Round-up: Where the user has the option to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar during checkout.

Both have been tremendously successful. It's common to see thousands in additional donations simply by flipping these features on.

Then we got creative.

What if we addressed a common request--to offer the buyer the option to cover card processing costs and smashed it together with a suggested donation?

We ran some tests to see what buyers would respond to and we're so puffed up by the early results we've launched it as a feature.

Introducing Donation Round-up Plus.

If you revisit any donations you collect, you'll see some new options in the Round Up dropdown menu.

Donation

By choosing one of the two new options, you can give buyers the option to also cover the cost of credit card processing--either in place of the smaller round up or as an additional choice.

Donation

This small, extremely easy incremental change can result in hundreds or thousands of dollars in additional donations.

This option works with sales anywhere - embedded widgets and checkout, on goelevent.com, and through the Box Office / Retail point of sale. This feature is available to all clients at all pricing tiers.

Integrations

Additional Data Available via the Elevent API

Integrators, take note--some additional data can be gleaned from the Elevent API, including:

  • A [LastModified] timestamp to all Showtime calls in the External Web API--now you can easily limit updates to events and shows only when something has changed since your last run.
  • [DeliveryMethod] has been added to all item nodes in Get Customers calls. Now you can see how items were marked for delivery to the buyer and act on that information.
  • [CustomHtml] is now returned to External Web API calls. Custom HTML is basically rich, additional content about events. It may contain html-marked-up content, even HTML markup for images and videos. It's tricker data to handle and might cause some security concerns as you ingest it. Adding this data makes it possible to consume full, rich detail about each event for display on websites and apps--without requiring users to make changes in multiple systems.

Also, in the API, we now return $0.00 instead of the original value for the price of refunded passes, packages, extras, and memberships. This brings the behavior more in line with how refunded tickets report.

Import Unlimited Rows from Airtable at One Time

We support importing from for several operations, including:

  • Importing Events
  • Importing a Schedule of Shows
  • Importing Credentials and Badges
  • Importing a Whole set of Merchandise, categorization, variants, and inventory

Airtable puts some restrictions on their integrations--to date, we could only pull in up to 100 records from Airtable at a time. That meant multiple pass-throughs when importing a longer list of items.

We have overcome that limitation now and you can import any of those Airtable bases beyond 100 rows at a time. Be advised--you might not want to go absolutely ham on that. If you have over 500 or so to import, we'd still recommend doing multiple import runs just to make sure everything comes over fine.

Universal Vouchers: Can be Used By Anyone No Matter What

Universal Vouchers (UVs), if you keep up-to-date on the Elevent changelog, were introduced midway last year as a solution for vouchers that could be redeemed for multiple kinds of items. They can also exist outside of a voucher bundle and can be quickly generated instead of sold, could have no real owner, and were an easy way to generate emergency vouchers in lieu of refunds.

When we first introduced Universal Vouchers, assigning them to one specific customer did two things:

  • Assigned an owner to the voucher--so they could be found easily and associated with an actual person
  • Restricted that voucher so only the owner could use them

One of the most valuable aspects of vouchers is how easy they are to share--give that voucher or voucher number to another person and they can use it. With UVs, we made an exception to that sharability principle and let them become restricted to an owner when assigned.

It turns out simple sharing of vouchers is more valuable than the ability to restrict them to one person. This is especially true when you do sell UVs as part of a voucher bundle--it's far too confusing to try to communicate to someone that some of their vouchers may be sharable and others cannot be.

We have since changed how UVs work. Now, even if you:

  • Assign a Universal Voucher to a customer, or;
  • Sell/comp Universal Vouchers to a customer as part of a Voucher Bundle

Anyone, including the owner, can use those vouchers to get items without payment. As with all vouchers, as soon as _anyone _uses it, it cannot be used again by anyone anywhere at any time.

Along with this change, we also introduced a limit to each line item in a voucher bundle--we need to limit the number of vouchers and other items in a voucher bundle to 25 lest they become unmanageable. A voucher bundle can have more than 25 entitlements in it, but no more than 25 of any one line item.
